April Fools

Once a month we have a birthday luncheon at work.  It just happens to be on April Foods Day this month so I thought I would bring something fun for the pot luck on Friday.  I am bringing pizza, sort of.  I began with Fruit Roll up cut in pepperoni size circles.

I have an assortment of cake pans, this one is a larger round pan from a set of wedding cake pans.
A half a bottle of red food coloring later I had tomato sauce looking frosting.
Then I lightly tinted some white icing with a bit of yellow to make it look like mozzerella cheese

I also tinted some coconut with a hint of yellow--  (I shook it up in a plastic bag with a drop of food coloring)

After the coconut "cheese" I added the fruit roll ups!

I stopped in at the local Dominoes Pizza and asked for an empty box, which they happily handed over when I told them what I needed it for.  It makes the presentation complete!
Stay tuned for other April Fools events!

New life to old memories

When I was a little girl my neighbor made me a little cupboard.  He was a carpenter by trade.  It was painted bubblegum pink when I was small.  When my own kids were little I repainted it white. Not sure why my kids thought they could draw on it..
I got busy this weekend and sanded, primed and painted it.
I love the vintage look of these 50 year old hinges.
I think it looks pretty good, I just need some grandkids to come and play now!
Come on over Ashton and Maci!

Back on the Wagon

I had great success with Weight Watchers when I signed up in August of 2008.  I did what they told me, wrote down what I ate, kept track of my points, went to meetings, weighed in regularly and lost weight.  I reached my goal in 5 months, became a lifetime member, continued to weigh in and ate moderately.
I have kept the weight off for 2 1/2 years.  Mostly.  For some reason that doesn't make sense to me now, I ate with reckless abandon during the holidays, stopped weighing in, and certainly didn't write anything down.  So Surprise!  I've added a few pounds back on.  I vowed I would NEVER go back up the scale, so I am back to weighing in, going to meetings and keeping track...because IT WORKS!!!  I love the online option for tracking points, it costs a little, but I just replaced the cost of candy and junk food and it's even. It was not hard to get back in the groove and the scales are already reflecting the change!!

I recommend their program to everyone!  It does cost money, but I have learned so much and it is the price I had to pay to figure it out.  Now I'm learning the new Points plus program, seems to make sense.

San Antonio, TX

We had the most WONDERFUL trip to Texas.  Karl and I went for business, (a convention of independent furniture store owners) and enjoyed our time with family too.   We had fun walking the riverwalk, taking a boat tour, eating at great restaruants, learning new business tools, catching up with Karl's cousin and seeing our own grandkids one more time.
Remembering the Alamo

It's not a vacation if Karl doesn't spend some time on a golf course.
Watching the Shamu show at Seaworld

Ella and her grandpa

The kids loved the new Seasame Street's Bay of Play: the Merry-go-round, the giant climbing play area and Ella loved seeing the Cookie Monster and Elmo characters

Wyatt and Reese sharing a bucket of popcorn

At the end of a long, fun, sticky, hot, exciting day.

March in Utah

I don't mind a good storm in March because you know it's not going to be around for long.
Heavy wet snow
A LOT of heavy, wet snow

Fortunately, I have the tools and the MANpower to deal with it!  The snow plows had not made it to our neighborhood yet when I left for work, one gal was stuck at the entrance of our neighborhood and was blocking cars trying to come in, making it tricky to get by her to get out.  It makes me want to go someplace warm, sunny and 80 degrees, like where we could go to Seaworld ...... (see next post!)

Lunch Hour

Craziest thing!  I almost never go home for lunch, I usually run errands, and I wan't going to today but decided to make a quick run.  I couldn't pull into the driveway because there were all these Questar Gas trucks blocking the way, I wondered what the neighbors were up to.
BUT, they were not at the neighbors house, THEY WERE AT MINE!!  Digging a huge hole next to our gas meter because we had a leak!!   What?  How do they know?  I never smelled anything!  Aaaahh!  I don't know a lot about this but I am pretty sure a gas leak is a BAD thing!

They assured me it was a "small" leak, that I would never have known and that they discovered it when checking the new meter they installed, they had a 'gas detecting gun' that found it.   It was below ground where the pipe junctions had rusted.  This pipe was not supposed to be below ground, but over the years and with the landscaping changes the dirt levels now covered the area.
I took this picture through the dining room window.  Well, I'm glad they discovered this little leak before it became a big leak.  Fortunately for us, the leak was in the pipe before it entered the meter so we haven't been paying for it either!  So glad I happened to come home (funny how that works) today to see what was happening!
